windows security- how to set a strong password

How to set a strong password

Passwords act as a wall between your private data and the world online. There could be anything behind your password that you don't want to share at all. Password keeps all that data safe. But sometimes people do predict your password and access all your personnel junk.. and that situation is ridiculous. Here are few points which can help you to set a strong password
  •  Always use a unique, alpha-numeric password for all your important accounts.
  • Keep the password long and make sure it is alpha-numeric which means it should have combination of letters, numerals, symbols and, of course, it should be case sensitive. The minimum length of your password should be at least eight characters. What many people do not know is that you can also include spaces in between the characters.
For an eight character long password, after all the possible combinations, there are 6 quadrillion possibilities which is quite hard to guess.
  • Make sure that your password does not contain your user name, real name or company name and also it is not a complete word. The other way is to reverse the order of the characters. For example, Hell0u2@ can also be written as @2u0lleH which is a strong password. Though it is not necessarily the best option, but still better than keeping words the way they are spelt.
  • It is always advisable to keep changing your passwords regularly and also making sure that password recovery options are safe and up-to-date in case you forget (which will happen often!).
so by following these steps u are making your stuffs more safer than before, and less compromising with your privacy

New Windows 8

New about Windows 8

Windows 8 is the reimagining of Windows, an OS used by over a billion people across the world. It is also the riskiest. In 2010, Ballmer had said that "the next release of Windows" is the riskiest bet company has made. In terms of user interface, Windows is the biggest change in the history of OS after Windows 95.

Consequently, there is lot that is new in Windows 8. We list 8 big changes that are going to impact the way people use their computers.

This is the new 'desktop'. Well, there is no proper desktop in Windows 8. Instead, it has been replaced by a Home Screen, from where you can access you programs. Also, there are no icons.

Not for programs. And not for folders. Instead, you have tiles, which can dynamically show information. Clicking on these live tiles opens the program. Depending on the resolution of your computer you can see around 25 to 20 tiles. If you want access tiles that are on visible on screen, you can swipe right on a tablet or use a scroll bar on bottom on desktop and laptop. Home screen also features a powerful universal that can be used to quickly access a program, system settings or files.

The 'desktop' has been changed into an app in Windows 8. This means by clicking the Desktop app on Home screen you switch to the good old Desktop but only until you have work to do there. The biggest change here is that users no longer have access to Start button.

If users have to access some program, they have to go back to Home screen. Now, there are two ways to switch between Desktop app and Home screen. One, you can use Windows key. Or you can use Charms, which are hidden. On tablet, Charms can be revealed by swiping left from the right bezel. On desktop or laptop, navigating the mouse pointer to the left or right corner on the bottom of the screen does the trick. Charms also have options to access search, settings, share, and see connected devices. All of these change depending on the context, or in other words the program open on the screen. For example, if you click search on Home screen, you get universal search. But if you click search in windows store, you get app search.
Currently, programs are installed after a user downloads the installer from the web. In Windows 8, all the programs with Modern UI design language will be distributed through Windows Store, a concept that is similar to app stores on Android devices, iPhone and iPad etc.

Microsoft says that developers can offer their apps for free or sell them. If they decide to sell, Microsoft will take 30% cut. But if an app makes more than $25,000 than Microsoft will reduce its share to 20%. Installing apps through Windows store is just a matter of looking for those apps and clicking install. Uninstall is also easy. Just select an app and click uninstall. Though currently, the number of apps in Windows Store are rather limited
.

The current Lock Screen is boring and useless. So, Windows 8 changes it to something that is more useful. Just like Lock Screens on iPad or Android tablet, the Lock Screen on Windows 8 can show information like battery status, connectivity status, number of unread mails, Twitter mentions, Facebook updates etc.

The new Lock Screen features several new ways to unlock the PC. You can use a picture password. This means on a tablet, you can draw a pattern on a picture to unlock the device. You can also use your Microsoft

WINDOWS 8

SAN FRANCISCO: Microsoft will release a new version of its flagship Windows operating system, tailored for a world shifting from personal computers to smartphones and tablets, today at 9 pm (IST).
The software giant gambled by changing long familiar user interface features to make Windows 8 compatible with trends toward keeping programmes and data in the internet cloud and relying on mobile gadgets at work and at home.
"Microsoft has this vision where they want to go; and it is Windows in the cloud," said analyst Michael Cherry of Directions on Microsoft, an independent firm that tracks the Redmond, Washington-based company.
"The chasm is very big and Windows 8 is a good first step," he continued. "But, all of these transitions come with a little pain."
The arrival of Windows 8 will coincide with the availability of Microsoft Surface tablet computers to challenge Apple's market-ruling iPads and rivals built on Google's Android software.
Surface tablets will be among Windows 8-powered devices sold in real-world Microsoft stores that will "pop up" on Friday in the United States and Canada.
Microsoft promised that the temporary, holiday-season shops will feature a "curated collection of Microsoft's coolest products."
Windows 8 and an accompanying version of Microsoft's free Internet Explorer web browsing program, were designed to optimise touchscreen capabilities.
"This is an absolutely critical product," Microsoft co-founder and chairman Bill Gates said in a video interview posted on the company's website.
"It takes Windows into the world of touch, low-powered devices, really giving people the best of what we think of as a tablet-type experience and the PC experience," he continued. "It is a big step."
Windows 8 will support a wide range of devices, including touch- and stylus-based smartphones and tablet PCs as well as desktop and laptop machines.
Versions of the operating system have been tailored for chips used to power various mobile devices.
The fate of Surface and other Windows 8 tablets will likely hinge on the availability and pricing of applications, since fun or functional "apps" are what people tend to love about gadgets, according to Cherry.
"Frankly, even an iPad out of the box isn't really exciting; it is a platform things can run on," the analyst said.
"The real question is how many apps really exploit the Windows 8 platform, and right now the number of apps you can truly get excited about is quite low."
Microsoft would "get software developers behind this," Gates added.
Apple on Tuesday introduced a fourth-generation iPad and a "mini" version of its hot-selling tablet computer while touting the fact there are more than 275,000 apps tailored for the tablets.
Apple also pointed out anew that iPads have been gaining popularity in businesses, long considered Microsoft technology strongholds.
Approximately 90 percent of the world's computers run on Windows software but sales of Apple Macintosh machines have outpaced the overall personal computer market for six consecutive years.
If mobile device operating systems such as those powering Android and Apple gadgets are factored into the equation, Microsoft's share drops considerably.
Windows 8 allows users to store and share personal data among various devices under the "SkyDrive" cloud computing service.
Rivals Apple and Google offer such services, which let people store digital data on servers in the internet cloud and access files from devices of their choosing.
Windows 8 will be available in 109 languages across 231 markets worldwide.
It "is simply the biggest deal for this company in at least 17 years," Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer said at Windows 8 preview event, referring to the time since the launch of the game-changing Windows 95 operating system.
"It's the glue; it's the foundation of everything Microsoft is built on."
Cherry dismissed worries that Windows 8 changes, such as replacing the Start menu with Tiles on an opening page, will alienate long-time users.
"User interfaces should grow, adapt and change," Cherry said. "Let's give people some credit that they will get it."
Forrester analyst Frank Gillett considered Windows 8 the most radical change for the operating system since the original Windows replaced Dos software in the early 1990s.
It remained to be seen how quickly Windows 8 would be adopted by businesses, which remain cautious after problems with the Vista version of the operating system generations earlier and that follow their own timelines for updating technology.
Microsoft reported that pre-sales of Windows 8 have outstripped those of its predecessor by 40 percent.
Microsoft will hold a gala party in New York City on Thursday for the midnight launch of Windows 8 and devote a massive marketing budget to promoting the operating system.

What after Lumia?  A Tablet...

Nokia is all set to rock the smartphone market again with its flagship Nokia Lumia 920 . Years of hard work,  years of hitting from other smartphone giants like Samsung and Apple, but now the old warhorse is back, and doing at what it is best in, the innovations...

However, at the launch of Lumia 820 and Lumia 920,  Nokia CEO Stephen Elop told ABC News,"We have not announced any tablets, but I think the opportunity is very clear, People today increasingly are looking for a common digital experience between their smartphone and tablet, with a PC, and with their gaming platform, and so there’s clearly an opportunity across there. This is something that we’re looking at very closely".

Making a computer wouldn’t be something entirely new for Nokia. It released a netbook in 2009 called the Booklet 3G. But Elop stressed that the company’s partnership with Microsoft and its commitment to making Windows phones could make this an even better time to get into the computing game for the phone maker.“Microsoft is introducing Windows 8 as well for PCs and tablets in the months ahead; same user experience, except taken to a larger screen size, one big family, and therefore many people around the world will gain experience with what we’re doing,” he said. “So, it’s a very, very exciting time for us.”
Additionally, because Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 are built on the same software, it will encourage developers to write apps for both platforms, Elop said.Nokia has previously been rumored to release a Windows 8 tablet. The rumors pointed to its having a 10-inch screen and a dual-core processor. A number of company’s last week  announced their Windows 8 computers, including HPSamsung, and Toshiba.Microsoft will release its own Windows 8 tablet called Surface when the software is available for release Oct. 26.

WINDOWS 8

WHAT CHANGE??????

Windows, when we hear this name, we at once are haunted by memories of a computer screen, with start button usually at left corner. Since Nov 20, 1985, almost 26 years, windows have almost same basic appearance. however its been ruling the personnel computer family since then. But recently, diversions to MAC and other OS worried Microsoft and for the first time in the glittering history of windows, its logo changed and so does the windows. A complete new UI, and petty cool stuffs, makes it eye catchy hangout in the market.

And this renovated baby is to be delivered probably this month. Apart from its cool appearance, it customizes the concept of "one os". Yes its bit shaggy to shift from ur ipad to ur pc for the same job. and as Microsoft estimates, whole lot of 100,000 + apps waiting to give its users immense maneuverability. Let's see where this change leads to.....

APPLE: Missing a bite…..

The new iphone 5 disappointed one and all. Same old design, same old UI, mapping disasters and most importantly nothing revolutionary. However the update to IOS 6, what apple thought will save their boats provided them some stability. Smartphone market is growing. Change is nature, if you want to be in the competition you have to run. Same for iphones, they wanna survive; they should feel the heat in the market, and change….
Steve Jobs, undoubtedly the best marketer, pioneer, with a brilliant foresight and best design analyst, would have may be trashed the present design if alive. Holding the giant iphone is damn fussy, and also the power button is at the top, unreachable without palm adjustment.
Apple inc. is already facing so heat from its competitors as the Google OS: Android is gaining more space in the hearts of users. And precisely Samsung is gaining a lot. Threat to apple’s no. 1 spot.

Nokia lumia 920 : last hope

Revolutionary Ambient light detection and auto brightness enhancement

The Finnish giant, that once was the unbeatable emperor of the cellphone industry, but in recent times, nokia has witnessed the worst. Apart from losing it's no. 1 position in the market share, it has witnessed the spears on it's reputation and trust. It all started with the entry of  iphone in 2007, that revolutionized the the concept of mobile phones, nokia seems like loosing its grounds. The rest was done by its ageing operating system, symbian, which was undoubtedly the legend of its time. But legends get over, so did symbian. ios and android boomed in the market and guys shifted to them. the final nail in the coffin was nokia's obsolete touch screen, which was so damn fussy that it sealed the nokia's fate in smartphone's sector.

But times do change, and people do move on, so seems NOKIA. Done with symbian, it has shook hands with "windows". The new Nokia Lumia 920 is the result of the hard work and zeal of the developers of nokia to survive, and this time not only survive but to again rule its dynasty. State of the art design, wireless charging, best optics i.e. pure view technology with carl zeus lens, super sensitive touch screen, 4.5" display, and other revolutionary features once again put the competitors to fear. It seems like The Godfather is back from vacations....
